0.54. A rather antisocially positioned head, wouldn’t you agree?
If you fold the sail into the bag with the hanks and clew all at the opening of the sail bag you can make all of the jib (or storm jib) connections without a loose sail flailing around on deck (and eventually off deck and overboard). Sit on the bag, make all sail connections, then unfurl from the bag once everything is secure. I learned that one from my dad on a sketchy day in a sudden fresh gale on the Chesapeake Bay, USA. (And just dowse the other foresail into the fore hatch and deal with it later.) And what's the wording of the advice? "If you think you need to put a reef in the mainsail, you should have already put a reef in the mainsail."?
I have owned a 44ft Essex Smack and I was glad to see the back of it!.. I now have a Hurley 22r and love the simplicity of it.. There is a lot to be said for small Yachts!..
Put a magnet in the tea towel, that will make sure nothing does drop.
The first thing you learn is that you shouldn’t be out there! It’s different if you get caught out in it!! It’s called survival mode. Go home!!😢
I've had mine for 15 years and covered 1000s of miles in her around the Irish coast and offshore. She has never left us down. Headroom below is one of the few reasons I'd consider trading up. They are great value at their current market price, but worth looking for one with a new engine.
To build a 30ft boat with no standing headroom and a galley that's unusable a sea is quite an achievement. Overpriced boat that will not hold any investment value is quite ridiculous. Nice cockpit though.
Is this boat unsinkable?
When you know your boat you have a distinct advantage.
She can climb my mast any day 😂❤
High rise houseboat, nothing for sailing
Brilliant! Possibly the best explanation of heave to I have seen. Cheers
Great informative video. 10/10 would love to try this style of sail training
In the same style, I favour the Dehler 30od. She'll allow you some week-end trips in between your "transatlantic races"... Hard to imagine there's a market for transatlantic racing, actually?! But then again, make the boat expensive enough, and you don't need to sell as many in the end. All toys for the very wealthy at the end of the day. Awaiting a simply built sportsboat at really affordable rates. I feel that will last a while, though.
As a experienced sailor I always splice the main brace and yo ho ho in bad weather it's also important to weigh the anchor to make sure it's heavy enough
watching this video solved the problem i had thanks very much.
If you have a glow plug system leaving it on with the beeping sound is a bad idea
thanks for sharing this great video. Very informative. Good sound and video, and very well presented.
spot on, this was thorough and thought provoking . thank you gents
Protected deep waters it appears calm. . On Lake Erie's shallow waters with 45 knots of wind from SW or NW the waves would be 12 feet or larger. with an occasional 16 footer all breaking 6 to 7 seconds apart.

I have me halyard mistakenly pulled up to the top of mast ! Any ideas how to get it down. My mate pulled it up and it’s stuck at top
Why these racers boats all a total mess with 2 weeks till race day when they had years to prepare?
Will somebody please explain how a Sadler 26 is remotely like a Contessa 26. They are both 26 feet and that's were the resemblance ends. Cored below the waterline , no thanks.
If she’s carrying weather helm, how functional is the back stay?
Thats a Really useful Video. One question I have is, is the try sail really that much better than a deeply reefed mainsail, because it seems a lot more hassle?
The black one isn't a Spinnaker!?! Not sure if I get the language right, he keeps talking about sailing with Spinnaker?
I was alone in some storms on an Alberg Triton in the 90's, but I have a bike integral helmet. I get the idea from Eric Tabarly, famous french racer since the 60's up to the 90's.
Thanks for showing us this experiment!
Amazing simple creative ideas that could not only save our boat, but also our life. Gracias por el vídeo!!
Amazing simple creative ideas that could not only save our boat, but also our life. Gracias por el vídeo!!
I like this dude better than Toby.
It’s a nice boat, but modern hull designs don’t really punch through waves do they? The flat (Ok rounded) hulls forward of the keel slam into anything other than benign seas and the whole boat then tries to shake itself to pieces. This makes a mockery of putting the “owners” cabin fwd as very few owners appreciate experiencing negative g whilst beating into weather.
More cruising oriented first 36, kinda. Only missing shaft drive instead of saildrive
i like your Vids but please invest in some sort of camera stabilizers or gimbal or camere with auto stabilzer. The shaking drives one nuts...
Would I sleep soundly with one of my children standing at one of those helms on a dark rough night sail.
HR still continues to create and build functional, beautifully structured boats to easily fit different financial choices/options. 2024 and their 50-60’s footers still take my breath away. If ever the times arrive when I can afford a yacht, HR is the only way to go.
Yeah, 200k somewhat acceptable, not price gouging. I feel like people who would like to go ocean racing on the cheap are more likely to pick a smaller design buildable in plywood and build it for 20k. Probably 50k too expensive for it to be a massive widespread success; I mean, this thing is bare bone AF. At least it has a pretty sweet chart table.
We use Windrider 17s so this would be great.❤❤❤🙏🙏👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧⛵️⛵️
How much?
learned to sail on her when she was owned by Midland Bank, great boat, great adventures, great memories.
Imagine healing around 35 degrees and walking on a deck of a fast yacht you just got to know for hours and explaining all the details ... this is just a masterpiece of your (incl crew) work. Thank Theo for uploading and supporting us with those superb reviews.
What about the twin rudder and the control of the boat while maneuvering with the engine? Is it responsive or not so much?
That would have to be the gentlest capsize in history and in no way a reflection of real world events.
this is a pet peeve but professional journalists in this space should be able to pronounce Boot Düsseldorf correctly. It smacks of either arrogance and inattention or, quite frankly, stupidity.
Sehr ausführlicher Rundgang mit guter Erläuterung!
Ridiculous low headroom designed for dwarfs. How do you sleep with all those windows letting the light in.Overpriced for a boat with some poor interior design issues
you heaved to with engine on , why is that?
Sweet
IKEA interior, unprotected propeller shaft, unprotected rudders... Holiday boat in the Mediterranean...
